At the Coast

At the Coast is a pocket garden in a Bay Area subdivision - a sanctuary to remind the owner of their times at the seashore, the landscapes and ecotones of the windswept region. The gradient from exposed, wheaten grasses to shaded camp under redwood trees informs a sense of arrival to a protection from the elements, a time to slow the senses. Salvage and reuse are priorities, with moments of art made of found objects and flotsam and surfaces made of urbanite. Planting palettes are inspired by local ecosystems, with permeable and planted areas maximizing ecosystem services.
